24 Jul Ones to Watch: Michael Greenspan
Inspired by landscape, informed by spatiality, galvanized by movement, artist Michael Greenspan paints in layers, enticing the viewer with luscious textures and subdued colors. His work interprets an interior or exterior space by employing fresco techniques and laying down beeswax, pigments, enamel and pastel over plaster-veneered wood panels.
By leaving the horizon line out, Greenspan creates a sense of depth and the illusion of space. We are free to float across the canvas as well as through it, finding our way with hidden maps and pieces of architecturally inspired plans, like cairns, on our journey through Greenspan’s world.
