11 Nov Western Landmark: Four Seasons Denver
A landmark tower in the heart of Denver’s theater district, the Four Seasons Denver is a shining homage to comfort, luxury and a remarkable collection of art. A recipient of both AAA’s prestigious Five Diamond Award and a Wine Spectator award, it is the perfect choice for an urban escape, all within reach of some of the finest powder skiing in the United States. Surrounded by an array of first-class shopping, dining, entertainment and convention center events, the hotel’s terrace pool, 10-room luxury spa and fitness center are all top drawer. Presided over by Executive Chef Simon Purvis, its Edge Restaurant & Bar is among the city’s most desirable culinary choices.
The 45-story hotel opened in October 2010, a collaboration of architectural firms Carney Logan Burke and HKS, and comprises 239 guest rooms, 21 suites — including an eye-popping presidential suite — and 102 residential units. Its spa and fitness facilities are a sanctuary of relaxation with a full-range of treatment options, two couples suites and specially tailored packages such as the signature high-altitude revitalizing gemstone Ormus ritual. Elegant interiors by Bilkey Llinas Design echo Colorado’s natural beauty with a palette of warm earth tones, richly grained woods and stone, the perfect backdrop for the hotel’s contemporary assemblage of paintings.
Inside the expansive lobby with its walls of windows and comfortable, inviting seating areas, guests understand this is more than a place to stay; it’s an experience. Stunning pieces by such master artists as Theodore Waddell, Will Clift, Tania Dibbs, Jonathan Hils, Trine Bumiller and Ana Maria Hernando create dramatic counterpoints throughout the public spaces. For two years preceding the official opening, Barbara Lewis and Liz Graham of LewisGraham Art Consultants worked tirelessly to find, commission, frame and install more than 1,000 works of art. “The property really showcases Colorado’s amazing art community,” says Lewis. “We love having such a large collection of local artists’ work on display downtown for the pleasure of all who visit.”
In January 2015, Four Seasons Denver initiated an innovative artist residency program during the city’s annual National Western Stock Show and Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale. Duke Beardsley, acclaimed for his contemporary interpretations of Western themes, started things off with a bang in his pop-up studio in the lobby, followed by happy hour events and a celebrity-attended ranch dinner. Since then, residencies have featured fashion photographer Jody Zorn, fashion designer Kristen Littlejohn and, this January during the stock show, Beardsley will reign again over his moveable art feast in the lobby. “We want our lobby to be a community space, one that invites our guests and other visitors to take part in a cultural celebration,” says Jim Guttau, Four Seasons Denver’s director of public relations.
