23 Jan Feather Artist Chris Maynard Exhibits in Jackson Hole, Feb. 1-15
Visions West Contemporary and WRJ Design bring Chris Maynard to Jackson Hole
World-renowned feather design artist Chris Maynard will be exhibiting nine intricate works from his acclaimed Featherfolio in the WRJ Design Showroom, 30 South King St., Jackson, Wyoming, from February 1 – 15, 2018. In a special event hosted by WRJ with Visions West Contemporary and open to the public, Maynard will sign his latest book “Feathers: Form and Function” and present an artist lecture on Thursday, February 1 from 3 – 6 p.m.
Washington state-based artist Chris Maynard began working with feathers at the age of 12 and his shadowboxes are recognized by art collectors, bird lovers and galleries worldwide. Maynard’s background in biology and ecology contribute to his one-of-a-kind artform and his book delves into the evolution, function and symbolism of feathers.
Using surgical tools, an heirloom magnifier and naturally discarded feathers selected based on color, texture and size from private aviaries and zoos, Maynard recycles these small bits of perfection, carving the feathers into finely detailed miniature artworks representing beautiful alliances between science and art. This quick stop-motion video offers a glimpse of Maynard’s transformation of a feather into artwork.
“We are thrilled to have Chris exhibit his remarkable pieces in our showroom and to share his passion and unique knowledge at the February 1st event,” says WRJ owner and design director Rush Jenkins. “Blending nature with art is an integral part of WRJ’s design process and we enjoy exploring that relationship in Chris’s amazingly detailed work as well. We’re honored, in partnership with Visions West Contemporary, to present Chris Maynard’s work and wisdom to the Jackson community.”
Event attendees can meet Chris Maynard, enjoying small bites and Prosecco while viewing his work on display and available for purchase and having the artist sign copies of his book “Feathers: Form and Function” on Thursday, February 1, in the WRJ Design Showroom beginning at 3 p.m. At 5:15 p.m., Maynard, whose process and knowledge have been featured in multiple venues including a TEDx Talk, will present an artist lecture.
