Rococo Square Serving Platter by Annieglass

THINGS WE LOVE: THINGS WE LOVE

Rococo Square Serving Platter by Annieglass

Regal and traditional with an artistic flair, the Rococo Square Serving Platter undoubtedly makes a statement at the dinner table. Each piece is hand-painted with a layer of 24-karat gold and individually set into a high-temperature kiln, allowing the glass to melt and drape over the handmade ceramic molds. During this process, the precious metals are permanently fused, turning each piece into a unique work of art. Annie Morhauser learned to work with glass at the California College of the Arts, and developed her own technique for “slumping,” an ancient glass forming process that became the foundation for her company, Annieglass, more than 40 years ago. We love the blend of styles infused in this platter, making it a perfect fit for contemporary or more traditional decor.

Trout Belt Buckle by Mark Goodwin

Mark Goodwin infuses his love of nature, wildlife, and sporting culture into hand-cast belt buckles. Made from recycled scraps of brass, copper, tin, pewter, gemstones — and even discarded oyster shells — his artisan works spotlight birdlife, antlers, dogs, and, in this case, fish. Most of his designs are embossed, popping from various metal backgrounds, some patinated and rough, others shiny and buffed. Goodwin’s Trout Belt Buckle features a cast bronze trout with a turquoise stone “fly” set into pewter overlaying a base of brass and nickel. It comes with a top-grain buffalo hide belt.

Buckle: 2.25 inch diameter

Aspen Ridge Table Lantern by Kevin Showell

Originally from Cody, Wyoming, Kevin Showell draws inspiration from the mountain and alpine landscapes that surround him, along with the work of many other Western artists. While his background includes drawing, illustration, and an apprenticeship in Old-World wood carving, Showell currently focuses on designing and crafting architectural features, interior furnishings, and custom sculptures. His use of unexpected materials and processes has become a characteristic of his most recent work, illustrated in this one-of-a-kind table lamp. Inspired by the original Greene & Greene Craftsman style of 1900, Showell carefully selected and arranged hand-poured art glass, using copper foiling for the aspen bark, numerous layers of solder, and mahogany for the frame. “The depth and detail was then enhanced with patina,” he says. We love how the soft light emanating from the lamp highlights the craftsmanship.

Tartan Après Ski Throw from In2Green

Whether you hit the slopes for the day or are curled up by the fire with a good book, the Tartan Après Ski Throw is the perfect aesthetic accompaniment for the chalet, featuring a vintage-style tartan plaid and classic ski patch design. However, instead of classic wool, this one is made in the U.S. with woven recycled cotton clippings salvaged from industrial t-shirt manufacturers. In2Green is the innovative woman-owned company behind this and other sustainable and design-forward statement blankets and home accessories, all of which are also made with more than 22 post-consumer plastic bottles that would otherwise go to landfills. Along with the eco-friendly aspect, we love the classic ski chalet design and the soft woven material.

Beice Armchair by Merve Kahraman

Merve Kahraman is known for her award-winning residential and hospitality interior design projects and, more recently, for her playful product and furniture designs which feature her own unique spin on Mid-century Modern styles. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Kahraman’s designs are often rooted in global artisan craftsmanship and sustainable materials while taking on a contemporary air that comes through in shape, form, comfort, and color. The Beice is a prime example, created to emulate the feeling of “sitting on a cotton candy cloud.” We love how the couch-like armchair comes in a variety of dreamy hues — from bright lime green and hot pink to muted pastel tones — and features rounded, pillowy shapes that contrast the angles of the walnut base. It’s no wonder Kahraman was recently featured in Jane Hall’s book Woman Made: Great Women Designers.

Dead City Lighting Collection by Mutuus Studio

Seattle-based Mutuus Studio has made a name for itself through its modern architectural and interior design projects and has brought that vision to its offshoot, Mutuus Made, to fabricate furnishings and home objects for its clients. Most recently, the studio launched the Dead City Collection, their first line of lighting fixtures that include a variety of pendants and sconces available to the general public. Designed by Mutuus partner Saul Becker — an artist known for his multimedia land and seascapes — the series pays homage to ancient ruins. Each fixture is handmade with linen micarta and brass, and named for a significant lost city. We love the textures and antique vibe of the series, along with the soft, moody illumination the fixtures emit.
