"Diamond Cuffs" by Todd Reed

Details: Things We Love

Diamond Cuffs by Todd Reed

Leave it to Todd Reed of Boulder, Colorado, to create these matchless beauties. At a young age he was introduced to the world of fine art by his mother, a renowned commercial illustrator. A creative through and through, Reed graduated from culinary school in his teens and was once a painter, sculptor and clothing designer. Today, he is a star in the field of jewelry design and recently opened a flagship store in Venice, California, on trendy, fashion-dominated Abbot Kinney Boulevard. His work celebrates the raw diamond, elevating it to an art form, and each piece incorporates ethically sourced diamonds and recycled metals. We love these stunning cuff bracelets: One made from palladium, a rare silvery-white precious metal from the platinum family, features more than 24 carats of diamonds; and the other, of sterling silver and yellow gold, is dotted with 14 carats of cut diamonds with a raw diamond cube placed in their midst. When beauty and uniqueness meet, it’s difficult to resist.

Bella Flora Dinnerware by HF Coors

We were thrilled to discover that not only can one have beautiful dinnerware but also durable dinnerware, made right here in the USA. HF Coors was formed in California in 1925 by Herman Franklin Coors, son of the renowned brewer. In 2003, Dirck Shou took over, moving the company to Tucson and clinging to its founding principles. He continues to use 100 percent American labor and 95 percent American suppliers. Each piece is made from clay stronger than stoneware and is chip-free; it’s also safe on the stovetop or in the dishwasher, microwave, oven or freezer. Originally manufactured for restaurants, HF Coors dinnerware is customizable, or you can choose from its classic array of colors and shapes. There’s even a set patterned with Frank Lloyd Wright’s whirling arrow, his famous design from the 1930s, inspired by Native American petroglyphs found when building Taliesin West.

Satchel and No. 3 Grip by Colonel Littleton

We found this handsome satchel for those who handle business with distinction. It’s large enough for your tablet, notepad, keys and other essentials. Made in Colonel Littleton’s workshop in Tennessee from American buffalo, the leather is “unapologetically rugged with more character, nicks, scrapes and variations in color.” For a lighter load, Littleton has made the No. 3 Grip, unusual, unique and sure to be noticed. Each piece is finished with solid brass hardware and solid copper tubing. The front brass pommel shield is serial numbered, noting each piece’s exclusivity. You can also personalize the brass oval plate.

Beer Vat Dining Table by Graveson Wood and Metal Works

We love this high-quality dining table by Phillip Graveson, a New Zealand native now living and working in Southern Colorado. It’s not every day one can find beauty in the ordinary, but Graveson, a fourth-generation craftsman, has done it with this table crafted from a vintage beer vat. Made from heart redwood, the beautiful amber color comes from the wood having steeped in beer. Part of his Bridge Series, Graveson constructed the bottom using steel to pay homage to old arch bridges. The entire table is fabricated and shaped by hand.

Traditional Sioux Tipi by Nomadics Tipi Makers

In business for 45 years in the Three Sisters Wilderness area of Oregon, Nomadics Tipi Makers proves the market for personal tipis is alive and well, producing more than 25,000 since the company began. Created in the traditional Sioux style, Nomadics’ tipis are a favorite for those who love the wilderness experiences. Strong enough to live in, these tipis can withstand hurricanes and below-zero temperatures, and each tipi is a work of art. “People love to visit our website and use the design-your-own feature, creating a custom tipi and then being able to see a mock up of what it will look like,” says owner Nicole Loffler. And who can blame them?

Attic Treasures by Suzanne Brown

Suzanne Brown has incorporated her former quilt-making skills into the art of fine jewelry. Working in metal of all kinds — gold, silver, brass, copper and even iron — she pieces and pierces together her designs. When she learned a technique of fusing gold over iron, it reminded her of artifacts and the stories they pass along to us. There’s certainly a story in this ring crafted of sterling and gold-filled metal. While she was going through her mother’s jewelry in the attic she discovered this earring and incorporated it into this beauty of a ring. We have one word for Suzanne’s Attic Treasures — fun!

Waltz Cup & Saucer by D-Bros

We found a delightful gift to give yourself or to someone who loves surprises. It’s a cup and saucer that “dance together.” Made from Japanese porcelain from the Hakata region, the saucer is painted with geometric shapes, yet the cup’s surface is highly polished palladium. When paired together, the cup reflects the pattern of the saucer, adding to its beauty as its curves expand and protract the design. Each cup is handmade and comes in a variety of vivid colors and motifs.

Onion Baskets by Dave Charest

A compulsive creator, Dave Charest says his idea to create baskets came when he was working with wire, creating Alexander Calder-inspired mobiles. When he came across some vintage wire baskets from the Depression era, he noticed their durability and began experimenting, trying to replicate them. He loved their rustic charm, and with the techniques he’d used in kinetic wire sculpture, he successfully created a whole line of baskets. We love this basket made of 16-gauge annealed steel wire that will hold about two pounds of onions. It’s designed to be hung on a wall and needs protection from wet surfaces, just as onions do.
